Girls lacrosse: Section 1 playoff brackets released for the four classes

It seems like it started a blink ago, but Friday's release of the Section 1 girls lacrosse playoff brackets is a big reminder the season is winding down.

Playoff games won't begin until Tuesday, giving teams a break after what was for many a hectic end to a 16-game regular season.

Four teams will emerge from single-elimination sectional play with a chance to advance to and perhaps win a state championship.

This will be by class, which reflects school size.

The top seed in Class A is 12-3 Suffern, last year's Section 1 A champion.

Last year's Class B champion, Yorktown, 12-4, which is back at full strength after some late-season illnesses and injuries, gets the No. 1 spot in B.

Yorktown's Reileigh McEnroe (l) defends as Nyack's Kayleigh Cassidy carries the ball in front of the Yorktown net during Nyack's 10-7 girls lacrosse win May 7, 2024 at Yorktown High School.

The C top seed has gone to Nyack, which is no surprise. The 15-1 RedHawks are the only team in Section 1 that has not lost to a Section 1 opponent this season.

The top seed in Class D is Albertus Magnus, which is 12-2 on the sesaon.

The Section 1 championships will be held over two days at Lakeland High with state regional play following as a lead-up to the state semifinals and finals, which are slated for June 7-8 at SUNY-Cortland.

Note: Section 1 playoff games are at the higher seed until the Section 1 championships, which will all be held at Lakeland High School.
