Girls basketball: How to watch Lansdale Catholic vs. Archbishop Wood in huge PCL matchup

Tuesday’s girls basketball matchup between Archbishop Wood and Lansdale Catholic was marked on many calendars before the season began/

Lansdale Catholic, Archbishop Wood meet for first time since PCL championship

The game will be the first time Archbishop Wood and Lansdale Catholic have played each other since last year’s Catholic League championship game. That game was an instant classic, with the Crusaders winning 50-47 for their first-ever league title.

Olivia Boccella scored the game-winner on a 3-pointer with 19 seconds to go, creating an iconic moment as the video went viral.

Both teams went on to win PIAA state championships. For LC, the Class 4A title was the first in team history, while the Vikings won their third straight Class 5A championship.

Archbishop Wood, Lansdale Catholic atop the Catholic League standings

Lansdale Catholic and Archbishop Wood are both undefeated in PCL play. The Crusaders (4-0) have wins over Archbishop Ryan, Conwell-Egan, Bonner-Prendergast and Saint Hubert’s, while the Vikings (5-0) have defeated Nazareth, Conwell-Egan, Cardinal O’Hara, Bonner and Archbishop Carroll.

Both teams will be going into Tuesday’s game after a loss. For the season, the Crusaders are 12-1, experiencing their first defeat on Sunday to Inter-Ac team Notre Dame. The loss ended a 26-game winning streak dating back to February 2023.

The Vikings are 11-5, with a loss to Westtown Friends, a team ranked in the top 5 in the nation, on Sunday. The day before, they had an impressive come-from-behind win against Archbishop Carroll, sparked by Emily Knouse’s huge fourth quarter, which included nine points, two steals and two blocks.

Players to Watch

Olivia Boccella, Lansdale Catholic

Since hitting the game-winning 3-pointer in last year’s PCL title game, Boccella has cemented her position as the top 3-point shooter in the league. Last week, Boccella tied the Catholic League record when she connected on 10 3-pointers in a game. The senior had seven 3s in the following game and is the Crusaders’ leading scorer.

Grace McDonough, Lansdale Catholic

In her first year with the Crusaders, the junior transfer has had a tremendous impact on the defense, averaging nine rebounds and three blocks per game, and has become a very reliable scorer, reaching double digits in five of her last six games, including two 20-plus point games.

Ava Renninger, Archbishop Wood

The senior Fairleigh Dickinson commit leads the Vikings in scoring and is known for excelling in big games. She scored 21 points and had five rebounds and four assists to lead the Vikings to a win over nationally-ranked McDonogh.

Emily Knouse, Archbishop Wood

Knouse’s big fourth quarter on Saturday sparked a comeback win against Archbishop Carroll and allowed Wood to remain perfect in the PCL. She finished with 17 points, her eighth game scoring 10 or more points.
