Gino D'Acampo has been confirmed for a new ITV show following his exit from his Road Trip series with Gordon Ramsay and Fred Sirieix.

The chef and This Morning star confirmed last month that he had decided to depart the show, citing filming schedule issues and contracts.

ITV has now announced a new six-part series called Gino's Italy: Secrets of the South, which will see the star return to his homeland and head to the lesser-explored southern regions of Puglia and Basilicata.

In it, Gino will adventure to "a romantic realm full of rugged mountains, ancient cave cities, sandy beaches and clear turquoise waters in the southern heel and sole of the country which is Italy at its most epic".

"However, these regions are full of secrets with much of their history shared with their Ancient Greek and Byzantine occupiers, who have left their mark on the foods that grow and dishes prepared and even the language spoken in this melting pot of regions," the synopsis adds.

Gino said of the series: "Italians are proud of our history, but we also keep our secrets, especially when it comes to recipes.

"There is so much more to the country, and these regions, and I can't wait to uncover some of those hidden gems and bring them to the viewers at home."

The news comes after the chef recently shut down claims of a disagreement with Gordon and Fred amid his departure from Road Trip.

"I love the boys. We have a great friendship. So that is not a problem. The problem is contracts. Sometimes they get very overcomplicated," Gino explained on Good Morning Britain.

"The main [complication] was about the dates, trying to get the dates together. We tried and then we got the dates and then they got cancelled. Then I thought, 'I don't want to do this any more.' It got too stressful."

Gino's Italy: Secrets of the South will air on ITV.
