Gigi Hadid Gets Real About Co-parenting Daughter Khai with Ex Zayn Malik

Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik's romantic relationship may be over, but their co-parenting one is just getting started.

The model opened up about being a young mom and parenting her two-year-old daughter, Khai, with ex-boyfriend Zayn Malik. The couple, who welcomed their first child together back in September 2020, reportedly split in October 2021 after six years of on-and-off dating.

Speaking with The Sunday Times, Hadid said she and Malik make sure to keep "the importance of the child's happiness at the forefront."

"You have a long life alongside this person," she explained, adding that she schedules her work commitments to be "when Khai is with her dad."

"That she can be with both parents makes me very happy," she added.

Hadid revealed that Khai shares "little bits" of British traits with her dad. "She's clearly a child who was grown in my stomach eating a lot of British food—breakfast, beans, curries. And she still eats like that," Hadid continued. "She even says some words with a little [English] accent, which I love."

She also spoke lovingly of the joy that Khai has brought to her life.

"She has already given me so much," the Guest in Residence founder said. "I always wanted to be a mom, but I was never obsessive about it or [thought that] I was put on this Earth to be a mom. I've always been quite organized, so having Khai at the time that I did was a blessing. I'm so glad to be a young mom."

Hadid previously talked about her pregnancy experience in an interview for Harper's BAZAAR's August 2021 cover story.

"During my pregnancy, I had one journal that I called my good journal and one journal that I called my bad journal. They weren’t that literal, but one was more for the memories, for Khai. Maybe one day I’ll give her the bad journal just to be real about it," she said, adding that the "bad" journal included, "anxieties and days where I felt like, 'Am I good enough to be a mom?' I didn’t want to feel guilty about feeling those things or writing those things down. I just liked the separation."
