ICYMI, those cowboy boots you’ve seen on the streets over the past few years are only continuing to grow in popularity, clocking in as one of the top shoe trends of the moment. With Cowboy Core at an all-time high, largely thanks to Beyoncé’s eighth studio album release, Cowboy Carter, Google searches for cowboy fashion saw an exponential increase in volume. At this point, this “cowboy lite” trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, and you can find a plethora of western-inspired options to shop at many of your favorite stores, such as Revolve, Amazon, Nordstrom, Reformation, DSW and more, including boots with arch support, knee-high boots and comfortable boots that won’t leave your feet covered in blisters. To fully embrace your inner cowgirl, I’ve broken down how to wear cowboy boots in 2024 at the end of this list—and, of course, where to buy a pair. So whether you’re someone who thinks there’s no such thing as being overdressed or you’re more of a jeans-and-a-T-shirt kind of gal, giddy-up for 15 of the best cowboy boots for women to suit your personality.

1. Jeffrey Campbell Dagget Western Boot

Revolve

There’s nothing like a classic black cowboy boot that’s guaranteed to go with just about everything in your closet. Complete with western-inspired stitch detailing and a pointed toe, this is the kind of boot you’ll want to show off. “As many reviews say, these are the most comfortable cowboy boots I have ever owned. The sole feels like a Tempur-Pedic pillow,” gushes one Revolve reviewer, who says she could comfortably wear them straight out of the box. She sized up to accommodate for thick socks in the colder months. Reviewers are mixed on the sizing, with the majority of buyers finding it runs true to size and others noting that it’s either spacious for narrow feet or narrow in the toes for those with wider feet.

2. Billini Urson Western Boots

Billini

Say “I do” to these beautiful white boots from Billini. They boast a slim silhouette and low stacked heel that won’t be impossible to walk or line dance in for hours on end, but don’t just take our word for it. One Nordstrom customer writes, “[They’re] so comfortable. I normally wear a 7.5 and ordered a 7, [and it] fit perfectly. I walked around Nashville [for] two nights and [they] did not hurt.” According to some buyers, the width can feel slightly slim, especially on people with wide calves, and the shaft may be too tall for petite wearers. “I am 5.3 and they did come up to my knees and the sides did go a little taller, but they were adorable,” the reviewer adds.

3. Coconuts Legend Cowboy Boot

DSW

Yeehaw! I’ll be blasting Shania Twain while rocking these chestnut stunners. Beloved by many for their comfortable soles, these vintage-inspired rustic boots are the ideal pair if you want a shoe that’s more traditional and can withstand the test of time. It was love at first sight for one DSW reviewer, who says, “I recently started taking country line dance lessons and tried about a dozen pair of boots until I found these! They don’t hurt my feet and look just like the real leather [pair] I almost paid $200 for!” Another customer says, “They fit like a glove and almost feel like walking on cushions.” It doesn’t hurt that the heel height is below 1.5 inches, too.

4. Journee Collection Becker Bootie

DSW

I love the traditional block heel and western stitch detailing on these shorter boots. They’re made with a soft vegan synthetic upper that looks just as chic as a genuine suede, and they’re constructed with four millimeters of the brand’s Tru Comfort foam insole, making each step that much softer. One DSW customer writes, “I bought these boots a few weeks ago and they didn't take any time to break in. They were comfortable from day one.” Style them under a pair of dark denim jeans and let the almond toe peak out from underneath, or show off their cute height with a skirt or some trendy baggy jorts.

5. Charles Albert Embroidered Western Cowboy Boot

Turn heads in these picture-perfect pink cowboy boots I’m almost certain Barbie herself would wear. “Not only did I love them the moment I put them on, but I wore them and walked around for hours with absolutely no sore feet at all,” says one Amazon buyer. “They do not rub my scar and it doesn’t aggravate my plantar fasciitis.” I’d chalk that extra comfort up to their padded insoles. The vegan leather shoes feature western-inspired stitching throughout in white, creating a striking contrast against the rosy material. Speaking of the color, I’m loving the muted pink hue for a subtle pop of color that doesn’t feel overpowering or too vibrant, though these Roper cowboy boots come in a brighter bubblegum pink if you’re shopping for a pair that stands out a little more.

6. Glamorous Knee Tassel Western Boots

Asos

Say it with me: Fringe is in. Couple that detail with soft, sleek suede and you have a winning duo that seamlessly blends vintage and modernity. While there are no zippers, there are functional pull tabs on either side of the boots to make slipping these on a breeze (while looking cute in the process).

7. London Rag Ponsies Boot

DSW

On top of being darn cute, these babies boast intricate embroidery work throughout that really makes the metallic fabric pop. As for the sizing, one customer writes, “I would suggest sizing up a half size if you wear regular socks with your boots; they're comfortable in bare feet but would definitely be too snug with socks.” One foolproof way to wear metallics is by planning your outfit around the boots, which will act as the focal point to your outfit. Don’t be afraid to throw less flashy pieces into the mix, from a corporate-looking skirt to an Oxford button-up.

8. Frye Campus Knee-High Boot

Frye

Nod to rancher style with these traditional square-toe cowboy boots. If anyone knows how to make an understated cowboy boot, it’s Frye. This style is made with the brand’s signature scrunch nubuck leather that’s water-resistant and in a delicious banana yellow. In line with the buttery yellow hue is the buttery-soft fit, per one customer’s review: “Extreme comfort right out of the box, and they are very handsome,” they write. “Also, I have very skinny calves, and all my boots have a bit of extra room in that area, [but] not these, so I am so in love with them.” On the flip side, buyers with wider calves find them to run narrow, though you can bet that your toes will have ample wiggle room for maximum comfort.

9. Reformation Orly Western Boots

Reformation

Chocolate boots or chocolate bar? Both are delicious to us. These Reformation cowboy boots are super stylish and effortlessly chic, with a mid-calf shaft that’ll look fab with wide-leg jeans, a midi skirt or some daring micro shorts. The boots are equipped with a modish pointed toe and walkable kitten heel that’ll go the extra mile (literally) for your feet. The calf suede leather is ultra-luxurious, and only requires a spot clean upkeep, though I’d recommend using a suede protector to keep it safe from the elements.

10. Schutz x Revolve Cicera Boots

Revolve

Don’t let these creamy cowboy boots fool you—they’re in no way vanilla. These boots, which are from a collaboration between Schutz and Revolve, are bound to be your go-to pair for all your neutral ‘fit dreams. Made in Brazil using a premium leather for the upper and sole, these boots will feel just as luxe as they look, and the modern shoes have many of the western details I look for in a cowboy boot, like pull-tabs, a stacked heel, pointed toe and, of course, that western-inspired stitching.

11. Steve Madden Layne Cognac Suede Boots

Steve Madden

These are for you, my fashionista sisters, who won’t settle for anything less than perfect. These Steve Madden suede beauties are a conversation through and through. They have a contemporary fold-over style that’s begging to be seen and subtle decorative embroidery throughout. Plus, classic cowboy elements like a stacked and tapered block heel and pointed toe.

12. Schutz Maryana Block Boots

Nordstrom

These animal-print embossed leather cowboy boots are some of my favorite shoes in my closet. When in doubt, I always opt for these block-heeled knee-high boots to elevate my looks. Whether I’m wearing a mini skirt, jeans or a dress, these stunners never fail to add a bit of spice. I find that they run true to size, and they’re pretty comfortable despite the 3-inch heel, though my wide, flat feet do feel sore after a few hours of wear, especially near the point where my toes scrunch.

13. Steve Madden Lasso Suede Cowboy Boots

Steve Madden

How does that saying go again? The higher the boot, the closer to heaven? Sounds about right to me. These Chestnut beauties are crafted with vegan leather and incorporate whipstitching details. “These boots made me feel like a skinny long-leg queen (I have short, thick legs). I felt so confident in them and wore them all week in Nashville,” says Steve Madden buyer Bella C., who was showered in compliments while wearing them. Her parting advice: “If you are debating getting them DO IT. I have thick calves and short legs and they still looked AMAZING.”

14. Isabel Marant Duerto Boots

Revolve

Between the mix of leather and suede and black and cream, I’ll be dreaming about these Isabel Marant boots for the rest of my life. They’re sophisticated yet have a playfulness to them that’s brought on by the flame-shaped topstitching and wide shape. If you have wider calves, the roomy leg will be godsend, though many reviewers note that the boots run notoriously small in the toe box. “I would definitely recommend these boots being that they are so adorable; however, they run very small and are super tight at the toes,” says one Revolve shopper.

15. Marc Fisher Gidden Cowboy Booties

DSW

What do you get when you mix a surprising Paris Fashion Week micro trend with cowboy core? These Marc Fisher cowboy booties decked out in blue denim. One happy buyer writes, “I LOVE THESE! [They are] so cute and comfortable, I can’t wait to wear them in the spring and summer!” Because of their shorter construction, these boots will feel ultra-versatile, especially when you want to wear them underneath pants or jeans for a Canadian tuxedo moment, as the tops won’t bulge out awkwardly underneath the fabric. I like that the brown stitching adds a modern twist on a classic silhouette.

How to Wear Cowboy Boots

They may not be as practical at first glance as our beloved Chelsea boot, but cowboy boots are not as intimidating as you might initially think. From cozy casual to formal elegance, cowboy boots have a certain versatility that make them, dare I say it, a Renaissance shoe? Don’t believe me? I’ve broken down eight ways to style your cowboy boots so you will never have to feel like the one trick pony.

  1. Pair them with a mini dress. When the sun is shining, I suggest pairing the traditional western style with dainty feminine cuts like a mini dress for a leggy moment that will show off the boots. Don’t be afraid to reach for mini dresses that have bow embellishments for a fun juxtaposition.

  2. Modernize vintage-inspired silhouettes. Vintage vibes have been spotted everywhere for the past several years—from the streets of NYFW to the depths of my TikTok feed. Think: vests and full skirt co-ords. Meld the trends for a stunning contrast between the delicate, lived-in pieces and the stiff boots.

  3. Wear them under maxi dresses or skirts. A chic and dramatic maxi dress or skirt makes for an unforgettable statement look—especially when paired with cowboy boots. Not to mention, it’s such a chic and easy outfit to throw on that will take you from that job interview to dinner date all in a day’s work.

  4. Match them to your clothes. There’s nothing cooler than a monochromatic outfit paired with matching boots. Whether you go for an all-neutral ensemble or a bolder hue is up to you.

  5. Don the blazer and shorts combo. If you want to look polished yet casual, pair your cowboy boots with an oversize blazer and baggy jorts (yes, the longer hem is back en vogue, people). Business on top, party on the bottom.

  6. Layer them under or over jeans. No need to break the bank to keep up with the trends. Grab your most lived-in pair of straight-leg jeans (this cut will work the best to frame the shoes) and toss on boots instead of sneakers. For a peek-a-boo ‘fit, wear your cowboy boots with your favorite wide-leg pants or baggy jeans to really draw the eye downwards towards your feet.

  7. Wear them with a jacket of the same material. Complement the leather of the cowboy boot with that of a leather trench coat or leather blazer. The coordinating fabrics at the top and bottom of your outfit will look so chic.
