New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley had his 2020 season cut short because of an ACL injury. While there doesn’t appear to be any setbacks in his recovery, the No. 2 overall pick isn’t ready to be listed as a full-go for training camp next week.

ESPN insider Field Yates is reporting that Barkley will begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list.

“Giants RB Saquon Barkley will officially begin training camp on the PUP list after his ACL injury last year,” Yates reporter on Twitter. “He is eligible to be activated at any point and continues to make progress.”

Barkley spoke to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan earlier this week about his status for training camp. He didn’t provide a timetable for his return, as he appears to be taking a day-by-day approach.

“I don’t know. We’ll see,” he said, via ESPN’s Jordan Raanan. “Taking it day by day. Just listening to my body. Whenever I’m able to get out there, just make sure I’m 110 percent. Not just for … my well-being, but just so I go out there and compete at a high level and show the world who Saquon is.”

When healthy, Barkley is one of the most electrifying players in the NFL. During his rookie season, he had 1,307 rushing yards, 721 receiving yards and 15 total touchdowns.

Unfortunately, Barkley has suffered multiple injuries over the past two seasons. He dealt with an ankle sprain in 2019 and torn ACL in 2020.

The Giants should have an update on Barkley’s health once they begin training camp next week.
