Giannis took fourth in MVP vote and social media had feelings
Giannis Antetokounmpo took fourth in the NBA Most Valuable Player voting, released Wednesday, with a total of 192 points. That ranked him distantly behind third-place finisher Luka Dončić of Dallas (566) and even more distantly behind the top-two finishers, winner Nikola Jokić of Denver (926) and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of Oklahoma City (640).

Antetokounmpo did receive one first-place vote from the 99 voters, as well as one second-place vote, four third-place votes, 44 fourth-place votes and 23 fifth-place votes.
The results weren't a surprise; it had already been announced that Antetokounmpo was not among the top-three finishers. But many Milwaukee Bucks followers on Twitter voiced their displeasure that Antetokounmpo, already a two-time winner of the award, became such an afterthought in a year where he scored 30.4 points per game with 11.5 rebounds, a career-best 6.5 assists and a career-best .611 shooting percentage.
Antetokounmpo took third the last two years in the MVP vote and fourth in 2020-21 following his back-to-back wins in 2019 and 2020.
The identity of voters is usually made public after the announcement of the all-NBA teams, which doesn't have an official announcement date for 2024 but will come soon.
Here's a look at some of the reaction. Yes, pretty much every candidate had a cadre of supporters feeling disrespected.
Giving him his flowers.

I respect the hell out of Jokic but there is no reason he should have more MVP’s than Giannis.

Giannis was the first player in NBA history to average 30, 11 and 5 last season on 60% from the field, and he did it WHILE getting the best record in the ENTIRE LEAGUE. Finished a DISTANT third for league MVP #NBAAwardspic.twitter.com/8WNxZjiRZn

Giannis Antetokounmpo this season:
30.4 PPG
11.5 RPG
6.5 APG
61.1 FG%
The first player in NBA history to average 30/10/5 on 60+ FG%.
He only received 1 first place MVP vote. pic.twitter.com/gRRnnIoogy— 30🅿️roblemz (@30problemz) May 9, 2024
Simply amazing that a 30 PPG season on 60% shooting for the first time In NBA history wasn’t even worth a top 3 MVP finish according to the media.
Never forget how historic Giannis’s season was, folks. A true shame it was derailed by injury. pic.twitter.com/bl9gdAIo7t— OberSports (@obersports) May 9, 2024
