Why did the Wilmington chicken cross the Isabel Holmes Bridge? To get to Leland. Well, for a while, but not anymore. The months-long partial closures of the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge are over at last.

Since January, the bridge has seen lanes in one direction closed to traffic while the riding deck and support beams were being replaced to extend the lifetime of the bridge. During that time, traffic was rerouted across the Isabel Holmes Bridge.

North Carolina Department of Transportation officials announced the project had completed well ahead of schedule, with all lanes of the bridge reopening on May 9, following a short weather delay.
