Geranium sale, book sale and plant sale: 7 events for this weekend

Apr. 25—There's something about this time of year that just brings out the community spirit. Perhaps because the days are warmer and winter can be lonely. This weekend brings you a host of activities aimed at helping others. Spring to it!

Flower powered

ARCA is holding its annual Geranium Sale from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, April 27. Get beautiful flowers and help support the organization. The sale will be held at 181 E. La Entrada Lane in Corrales.

Stars of spring

The Albuquerque Astronomical Society is hosting a Star Party from 8-10:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. There will be a presentation on what visitors can see currently through telescopes, along with a constellation tour. The event is free and will take place at Valle de Oro Wildlife Refuge, 7851 Second St. SW.

Open a book

The Friends of Libraries and Literacy FriendShop is hosting a buy one, get one sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 27, to celebrate Independent Bookstore Day. The nonprofit aims to help improve literacy in the community. FriendShop is located at 4300 Ridgecrest Drive in Rio Rancho.

Blues & barbecue benefit

Enjoy an afternoon of blues and barbecue and help the La Mesa Arts Academy, from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, April 28. The Rudy Boy Experiment will be performing. The event will be at La Mesa Presbyterian Church, 7401 Copper Ave. NE. The requested donation is $20 for adults and all proceeds go to support the La Mesa Elementary School after school arts program.

Good friends

The Best Buddies Friendship Walk will get moving at noon Sunday, April 28, from Albuquerque Academy, 6400 Wyoming Blvd. NE. The walk is the leading event in the country supporting inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. A South Valley celebration

Celebrate with the 31st annual South Valley Pride Day Celebration on Sunday, April 28. Festivities start at 11 a.m. with a parade, followed by fiesta activities from noon to 4 p.m. at the Westside Community Center, 1250 Isleta Blvd. SW. The Sandoval Extension Master Gardeners are hosting their annual plant sale and fundraiser from 9 a.m. to noon (or until plants run out) on Sunday, April 28, at the Corrales Growers Market. The market is held at the corner of Jones and Corrales roads in Corrales.
