Georgia teen dies after being struck by lightning on Florida beach

A Georgia native teen was killed after he was struck by lightning on Wednesday afternoon, according to a somber post by his parents on social media.

While on Tigertail Beach in Marco Island, Fla., on July 17, William “Walker” Bethune, 17, was struck by lightning, leaving him unconscious and not breathing, Marco Island police said.

“He passed away peacefully this afternoon, listening to one of his favorite Allman Brothers songs, appropriately named “‘Soulshine,’” his parents wrote on Wednesday night.

“Our hearts feel an unimaginable pain, but through this journey you have taken with us, we hope that you have found inspiration to draw nearer to God. We continue to feel your prayers, love, and comfort, and ask that in the coming days, weeks, and months that you will keep our family close in your prayers,” they continued.

At the time of the lightning strike, Bethune, on vacation from Macon, was walking on the beach with his mom, dad, and brother.

Bethune was the fourth reported person to be struck by lightning in the course of 10 days in South Florida, according to Naples News.
