UCLA star Maya Brady went 3 for 4 with two home runs, a double and two RBIs on the night, including a home run in the Bruins' breakthrough four-run fifth inning.

Bulldogs pitcher Lilli Backes drew the start, allowing six runs on six hits across 4.1 innings of work. She was relieved by Shelby Walters, who allowed two runs, both of which came on the run-rule sealing hit in the sixth inning.

As a team, Georgia accumulated just four hits, with none going for extra bases. Now, the Bulldogs must face an uphill battle and win back-to-back games to get back to the Women's College World Series.

Georgia vs UCLA softball: Live updates

Final: UCLA 8, Georgia 0 (6 innings)

  • 11:40 p.m.: Pola singles to right field to score two runners, giving UCLA the 8-0 run-rule victory in the sixth inning.

  • 11:31 p.m.: Georgia lands two singles in the inning but can't move a runner past second base and strands two to end the inning. UCLA needs two runs in the bottom of the sixth to complete the run-rule victory.

  • 11:22 p.m.: Big pitch by Walters, as she strikes out Brady with the bases loaded to end the inning. A single to the outfield likely would've completed the run-rule for the Bruins.

  • 11:20 p.m.: Walters walks Meono to load the bases, with Brady coming up to bat once again. Not the batter a pitcher wants to face in this situation.

  • 11:14 p.m.: Walters gets an out on a deep flyout to left field, but the out comes in between a pair of UCLA singles. Bruins with runners on first and second with two outs in the fifth inning.

  • 11:08 p.m.: Backes night is done, as she's relieved by Shelby Walters. Backes pitched well enough to win other than the home runs.

Fifth inning: UCLA 6, Georgia 0

  • 11:07 p.m.: UCLA blowing this game right open. Backes allows two baserunners before Woolery knocks them all in with a three-run home run to give the Bruins a 6-0 lead.

Fifth inning: UCLA 3, Georgia 0

  • 11:01 p.m.: Brady has Backes number tonight, as the Bruins' leadoff hitter hits her second home run of the game to give UCLA a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.

  • 10:59 p.m.: Bulldogs having a tough time with timely hitting, as Digby strikes out before Fields grounds out to end the inning. Georgia with just six more outs to play with.

  • 10:56 p.m.: Georgia starts the fifth with another leadoff baserunner, who gets to second base after the infield hit on the sacrifice bunt.

  • 10:48 p.m.: Backes forces a lineout to second a flyout to center to strand the runner at third and end the fourth inning. Bulldogs offense taking over for the top of the fifth.

  • 10:44 p.m.: UCLA gets a runner to second on the error by Kuma. Bruins with a runner on third with one out after the sacrifice bunt.

  • 10:40 p.m.: Georgia gets another leadoff batter on base, but Mosley grounds out into a double play before a strikeout by Davis ends the inning. Bulldogs offense getting nothing going so far.

  • 10:30 p.m.: Backes gets out of the bases-loaded jam by striking out Woolery to end the inning. That was a much needed whiff.

  • 10:26 p.m.: Backes issues back-to-back walks after the RBI single, loading the bases in the bottom of the third with two outs. Error proving more and more costly.

Third inning: UCLA 2, Georgia 0

  • 10:22 p.m.: Allchin then singles for UCLA, plating Brady to make the score 2-0. Goodnight's error leads to a run.

  • 10:21 p.m.: A Maya Brady line drive hits Goodnight in the glove in center field, but Goodnight is unable to make the grab. Brady reaches second base with two outs in the bottom of the third.

  • 10:15 pm.: Not exactly ideal for the Bulldogs, as they go down in order after the leadoff single, including a strikeout from Goodnight. Backes headed back out for the bottom of the third.

  • 10:09 p.m.: Georgia starts the third inning with a leadoff single by Emily Digby. Bulldogs hoping for a spark.

  • 10:04 p.m.: Backes finding a groove, as she strikes out Pola in the second inning and forces two UCLA fly outs. Bulldogs head into third inning still down 1-0.

  • 9:59 p.m.: Lyndi Rae Davis draws a walk, but otherwise Georgia brings only four players to bat in the top of the second inning.

  • 9:51 p.m.: Backes settles in and retires the next three batters after allowing the solo shot. Georgia trails 1-0 after the first inning.

First inning: UCLA 1, Georgia 0

  • 9:47 p.m.: Maya Brady doing Maya Brady things. Brady hits a leadoff home run off Backes to give UCLA a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

  • 9:44 p.m.: Jayda Kearney grounds out into an inning-ending double play, and now Georgia heads to the field.

  • 9:41 p.m.: Georgia gets its first baserunner as Sydney Chambley draws a walk.
