George and Kellyanne Conway mourn the death of family dog

The Conways have suffered a death in the family.

Attorney, columnist and Donald Trump antagonist George Conway wrote on Twitter Thursday night that his family’s corgi, Skipper, had gone to doggie heaven.

“Skipper, 2011-2021. He passed away suddenly last night,” George wrote Thursday. “He was a sweet, affectionate dog, a very good boy, and a beloved member of our family. He will be greatly missed.”

George, Kellyanne and their teenage daughter Claudia ordinarily see no shortage of conflict on social media.

George and Claudia used their platforms to blast former President Donald Trump when he unsuccessfully ran for reelection in 2020. They made friends and enemies alike. Kellyanne was a Trump adviser who advocated for the conservative leader on Twitter, which also met with mixed reactions. But the response to George’s announcement of Skipper’s death was largely civil, if not sad, as other Twitter users posted photos of pets they’d lost.

Daily News and CNN contributor S.E. Cupp, The Daily Beast’s Molly Jong-Fast and The Dispatch editor Johan Goldberg even put politics aside to express their condolences. One commenter couldn’t help himself and probably should have.

Your wife poisoned him,” tweeted @BlackKnight.com.

That did not go over well with dog lovers.

“I follow you but might have to reconsider. This isn’t funny,” one of that person’s followers tweeted. “The pain of losing a beloved animal is real.”

Several social media users urged that joker to delete the mean tweet.

“OMG. I follow you & always respected what you had to say, but I find this so disrespectful in every way,” wrote another dissenter. “This was more a jab against the life of a dog then (sic) it was against KAC. Please consider deleting this tweet.”

Columnist and former Trump adviser-turned-critic A.J. Delgado sent her sympathies to the mourning dog-dad.

“Terrible to hear,” Delgado tweeted. “Really sorry to hear, George.”

The Associate Press published a Valentine’s Day 2020 profile on the Conways in which the couple’s two Corgis, Skipper and Bonnie, got a shoutout. George’s tweet Thursday did not mention Skipper’s cause of death. CorgiCare.com says the breed typically lives 12-15 years.
