George Clooney Mourns Death of 'Dear Friend' Norman Lear

George Clooney is the latest celebrity to pay tribute to legendary TV writer and producer Norman Lear, who recently died at age 101.

Clooney, 62, was on the red carpet in Seattle, Wash., this week to attend a screening of his new movie The Boys in the Boat, when he opened up to Extra about the loss of the beloved TV icon.

"He was 101 and the youngest guy in any room he walked into," said Clooney, who worked with Lear on sitcom The Facts of Life in the '80s. "I loved him," the actor added.

Clooney went on to share the extent of his relationship with Lear, calling him a "dear friend," and revealing that he had dinner with him "not long ago."

"He made dinners magical, and he was always curious and always optimistic, and it was all the stuff I’m envious of," the Ocean's Eleven star added during the interview. "He teaches you how to grow old in the best way, and he'll be missed."

Clooney's kind words for Lear come on the heels of several other celebrities mourning the late TV pioneer in the wake of his death. Among the most recent is Jennifer Aniston, who shared a heartfelt tribute to Lear on Instagram earlier in the week.

"Norman Lear. 💔 she began her emotional post, which included two photos of Aniston sweetly embracing Lear. "His shows shaped my childhood and getting to know him was one of my greatest honors."

Calling him the "kindest and gentlest man," the Friends star, 54, also wrote in part, "May we take a page from Norman’s playbook as a way of honoring his life. An extraordinary life. Rest in peace Norman. It was a gift to stand in your light. 🕊️❤️."

Other celebs who have publicly memorialized Lear include Al Roker, Jamie Lee Curtis, Barbra Streisand, Michael Douglas and many more who loved and adored him.
