Geena Davis Would Revisit Any of Her Characters, Even If “Thelma & Louise” Is Impossible (Exclusive)

"All I want to do is sequels," the actress told PEOPLE at CinemaCon

Geena Davis is game for a Hollywood-style trip down memory lane!

While attending CinemaCon 2024 on Thursday, April 11, the actress, 68, told PEOPLE she would happily step back into the shoes of her old characters.

"Oh, all of them," she says when asked which acting roles she would like to revisit. "All I wanna do is sequels. To every movie I've ever done."

She quickly adds with a laugh, "Oh, except Thelma & Louise. You can't bring them back from that!"

Davis was of course referring to the 1991 movie's dramatic final scene, when her character, Thelma, and sidekick Louise (Susan Sarandon) hold hands and drive their vintage Ford Thunderbird over the edge of the Grand Canyon after being surrounded by police and on the verge of being caught.

Davis also recalled how fans still wondered about a sequel despite the movie's rather conclusive ending.

"After it came out for a few years, we had people asking us, ‘Is there going to be a sequel?’ I’m like, 'What do you think happened at the end of the movie? I know!' she tells PEOPLE.

In March, Davis and Sarandon, 77, reunited at 90s Con 2024 in Hartford, Connecticut, where they spoke about Thelma & Louise's lasting legacy.

"Thelma & Louise changed my life. Really, it sent me in a different direction," Davis said of her career trajectory during a panel alongside Sarandon and Mira Sorvino.

Davis said that before the movie premiered and enjoyed huge popularity, she "knew what to expect" when fans would approach her.

"But then after that movie came out, it was completely different in that people wanted to talk to me about it and how many times they saw it or who they saw it with and how it impacted them," the actress recalled of the Ridley Scott-directed film, which garnered five Oscar nominations, including Best Actress nods for both Davis and Sarandon.

"It was pretty unusual both of us were nominated for an actor, because usually somebody goes into supporting, because it is an easier category to win, too," Sarandon noted during the panel. "They say that, which I didn't realize at the time, but the fact that both of us were nominated all along, every place that we were nominated, that was really cool."

Davis also shared that the two women "had never met" before they filmed the iconic movie together, and recalled being "so excited" about the prospect of working with Sarandon. "I'm just dazzled by Susan the second I meet her, I'm just like, 'Oh my God,' " she recounted.

She then told the story of how Sarandon left her in complete awe during their first script reading. "We opened the script and I remember it was like the first page where Susan says, 'This first line I have here, I don't think we need it. Why don't we just take that out?' " Davis recalled.

"And I look at Ridley and he's like, 'Oh yeah, whatever.' And through the whole thing, they're just talking through a little. And I was like, 'How have I gotten to this point in my life and I never spent time with a woman who doesn't apologize for what she says?' " she continued of Sarandon, adding: "Right then, I knew I was in a whole different world, and it changed my life."
