‘Gator on the runway’: Florida passenger spotted it from plane -- what her video shows

If you live in Florida for any length of time, you’re bound to see an alligator sooner or later.

And the omnipresent reptiles show up in some of the most unlikely places: the front door, the strip mall, the hospital, attractions like a Topgolf. Give them a break — they were roaming around the Sunshine State way before we were.

But at an airport. And on the runway>?

Luckily, the one spotted at Southwest Florida International in Fort Myers on Sunday was technically off the tarmac and not anywhere near the ticket counter or baggage claim.

Social media user Madison Holt shared video of the alarming/amusing scene witnessed safely from her seat on the plane.

In the 12-second clip on Facebook, you see the Southwest Airlines wing; right underneath, on the ground, an alligator on the move. Walking at a good clip, it heads toward a body of water.

The Florida Gulf Coast University student’s caption: “Gator on the runway,” along with sunshine and palm tree emojis.

Two other pictures, taken at a different time and at a different angle reportedly by the pilot, show that the gator actually did strut down the runway like a model at Fashion Week. In one snap, the air traffic control tower and a rainbow are seen in the background.

In March, a crocodile showed up at Naval Air Station Key West on Boca Chica Key and stayed a while. It seemed to be enjoying the springy weather.

“This airfield resident was soaking up some sun on one of our runways recently and didn’t want to budge,” NAS joked on Facebook with a classic pic.

The croc was eventually removed so that jets could take off and land.
