Gastonia, Shelby high school top performers: Ashbrook's Isaac Byers scores 40 in loss

Here is a daily list of the top performers from Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln counties during the week of Jan. 29 through Feb. 3, 2024.

Boys basketball

Isaac Byers, Ashbrook: Hit seven 3-pointers en route to a game-high 40 points in the Green Wave’s 72-71 loss to Kings Mountain. Ashbrook falls to 16-3 (7-2 Big South 3A).

Ayron Jackson, Ashbrook: Scored 10 points.

Cordarius Glenn, Bessemer City: Scored 29 points in a 77-67 win over Bessemer City. The Yellow Jackets are 4-16 (1-7 Southern Piedmont 1A/2A).

Tristan Gordon, Bessemer City: Scored 17 points and seven rebounds.

Jaevon Miller, Bessemer City: Earned a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Darrien Floyd, Cherryville: Scored 13 points to go with four assists and two rebounds in a 92-50 loss to Shelby. The Ironmen are 10-9 (3-5 Southern Piedmont 1A/2A).

Chancellor Hunt, Cherryville: Had 14 points and two assists.

A.J. Adams, Crest: Scored 16 points in a 62-60 loss at Hunter Huss. Crest falls to 13-2 (8-1 Big South 3A).

Lyrik Pettis, Crest: Scored 16 points.

Jackson Fannon, East Lincoln: Had 26 points and seven rebounds in a 71-64 loss at Statesville. The Mustangs are 10-9 (4-5 Western Foothills 3A).

Houston Hartsell, East Lincoln: Earned a double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds).

Davis Hill, East Lincoln: Scored 14 points to go with three rebounds.

Makoi Mabor Marier, Gaston Christian: Had 12 points, six rebounds and two steals in his team’s 60-25 win over Metrolina Christian. The Eagles are 16-14 (10-3 NCISAA MAC).

Deshawn Coulter, Gaston Day: Scored a team-high 14 points in a 65-55 loss to Concord Academy.

Kurt Hunter, Gaston Day: Had 13 points. The Spartans fall to 16-10 (8-5 NCISAA MAC).

Yoel Mussie, Highland Tech: Hit four 3-pointers en route to scoring a team-high 22 points during his team’s 73-60 loss to Burns. He also had five rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Highland Tech is 7-13 (4-4 Southern Piedmont 1A/2A).

Elijah Sherrill, Highland Tech: Scored 18 points to go with four rebounds, three steals, two assists and a block.

Elijah Whitted, Highland Tech: Scored 17 points to go with seven assists.

Z-Man Gladden, Hunter Huss: Had 10 points and six rebounds in a 62-60 win over Crest. The Huskies are 7-10 (6-3 Big South 3A).

Satchelle Pettis, Hunter Huss: Hit six 3-pointers en route to a team-high 18 points.

Zii Phillips, Hunter Huss: Scored 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Bradley Floyd, Kings Mountain: Scored 19 points, including the game-winning free throws in a 72-71 win over Ashbrook. The Mountaineers are 13-5 (6-3 Big South 3A).

Charlie Foster, Kings Mountain: Scored 11 points.

Caleb Nixon, Kings Mountain: Scored a team-high 22 points.

Landen Lyerly, Lincolnton: Recorded a double-double (22 points, 17 rebounds) in a 64-58 loss at Newton-Conover. The Wolves fall to 15-4 (6-3 Catawba Valley 2A).

Tyler McClain, Lincolnton: Had 18 points and five rebounds.

Peyton Hill, Mountain Island Charter: Scored 13 points in a 72-52 loss at Pine Lake Prep. The Raptors are 9-8 (1-8 Catawba Shores 1A/2A).

Camryn Jones, Mountain Island Charter: Scored 10 points.

Christan Jones, Mountain Island Charter: Had 12 points.

Carter Mason, North Gaston: Scored a team-high 18 points in a 57-54 loss to Stuart Cramer. The Wildcats are 3-16 (1-8 Big South 3A).

Caleb Kidd, North Lincoln: Had 10 points in his team’s 88-58 loss to Hickory. The Knights drop to 15-4 (7-2 Western Foothills 3A).

Tanner Lineberger, North Lincoln: Scored 10 points.

Bobby Erwin, Piedmont Community Charter: Had a game-high 20 points to go with two steals and two assists. The Patriots are 14-4 (6-1 Metro-8 1A).

Kayden McCrary, Piedmont Community Charter: Had 10 points, three rebounds, a steal and a block.

Victor Plessmoses, Piedmont Community Charter: Recorded a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds).

Xavier Wilcher, Piedmont Community Charter: Had 11 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Camryn Camp, Shelby: Scored 10 points in a 90-52 win over Cherryville. The Golden Lions improve to 11-6 (7-0 Southern Piedmont 1A/2A).

Drew Hollifield, Shelby: Had 12 points.

Santana London, Shelby: Scored 15 points

Makhi Brown, Stuart Cramer: Had 10 points and five rebounds in the Storm’s 57-54 win over North Gaston.Cramer is 6-13 overall, 1-8 in Big South 3A.

D.J. Cross, Stuart Cramer: Recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, along with five assists.

Gavin Jordan, Stuart Cramer: Had 10 points and three assists.

Amari Littlejohn, Stuart Cramer: Had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, along with five steals and four assists.

Girls basketball

Duraejah Hardin, Ashbrook: Scored a game-high 19 points in a 36-27 win over Kings Mountain. The Green Wave are 5-13, 3-6 in Big South 3A.

Kiara Anderson, East Lincoln: Led her team with 22 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and seven steals in a 65-17 win over Statesville. The Lady Mustangs are 18-1 (9-0 Western Foothills 3A).

Lane Pethel, East Lincoln: Recorded a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds.

Miangel Thompson, Forestview: Had 15 points in a 68-46 loss to South Point. The Lady Jaguars are 12-6 (4-4 Big South 3A).

Happy Arune, Gaston Christian: Finished with a double-double (12 points, 14 rebounds) along with six steals and five blocks in her team’s 53-43 loss to Metrolina Christian. The Eagles are 3-12 (3-9 NCISAA MAC).

Jessica Williams, Gaston Christian: Earned a double-double (15 points, 10 rebounds).

Bailey Maiers, Highland Tech: Became the program’s all-time leader in 3-point shots during the Lady Rams’ 38-35 loss to Burns. She has made 109 3-pointers during her career.

Addie McCraw, Highland Tech: Earned a double-double with 20 points and 18 rebounds.

Avery Bridges, Kings Mountain: Had a team-high 11 points in a 36-27 loss to Ashbrook. The Lady Mountaineers fall to 0-14 (0-9 Big South 3A).

Farri Martin, Kings Mountain: Scored 10 points.

Jaleila Littlejohn, North Gaston: Was the lone scorer in double figures for the Wildcats with 26 points in a 77-41 loss to Stuart Cramer. North Gaston is 4-15 (1-8 Big South 3A).

Hailey Hagler, North Lincoln: Scored 14 points to go with five assists, four rebounds and three steals. The Knights overcame a 16-point deficit to move to 13-6 (5-4 Western Foothills 3A).

Ally Smith, North Lincoln: Scored 15 points to go with six steals, three assists and two rebounds.

Lyric Brown, Piedmont Community Charter: Scored a game-high 20 points in a 68-14 win over Valor Prep. The Patriots are 9-7 (6-0 Metro-8 1A).

Evie East, Piedmont Community Charter: Had 12 points.

Lexi Birtwistle, South Point: Earned a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the Lady Raiders’ 68-46 win over Forestview. South Point is 13-6 (8-1 Big South 3A).

Maddie Frank, South Point: Scored 11 points.

Lauren French, South Point: Earned a double-double with a career-high 16 points to go with 10 rebounds and three blocks.

Amya Graham, South Point: Recorded a double-double with 14 points and 20 rebounds.

Oshauna Holland, Stuart Cramer: Recorded her first career triple-double with 28 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds in the Storm’s 77-41 win over North Gaston. In addition, the sophomore standout scored her 1,000th career point.

Cramer is now 15-4 overall (9-0 Big South 3A).

Lauren Humphrey, Stuart Cramer: Had 11 points and nine rebounds.

Hadley Womack, Stuart Cramer: Scored 21 points and had four steals.
