Gastonia, Shelby area high school fall sports top performers for Week 12 of 2023 season

This is a daily list of top performers from area teams, compiled courtesy of information provided to The Gaston Gazette and Shelby Star by coaches, athletic directors and team statisticians through emails, MaxPreps and Twitter.

Boys soccer

Antoni Ceciliano, Lincoln Charter: Scored a goal to help the Eagles to a 2-1 victory in the opening round of the NCHSAA 2A playoffs.

Jacob Hernandez, Lincoln Charter: Scored a goal.

Max Martin, Shelby: Scored the game-winning goal on a free kick in sudden death overtime to lift the Golden Lions to 2-1 win over East Surry in the first round of the NCHSAA 2A playoffs.

Manny Torres, Shelby: Scored a goal.

Girls golf

Kyla Callahan, East Lincoln: Shot an 84 on Day 1 of the NCHSAA 3A state tournament at Foxfire Resort, good for 12th heading into the final round.

Leah Cole, Burns: Tied for 18th with an 89 on Day 1 of the NCHSAA 2A state tournament at Stonebridge Golf Club in Monroe.

Madison Pruden, South Point: Shot an 83 on Day 1 of the NCHSAA 3A state tournament at Foxfire Resort, good for ninth heading into the final round.

Melony Hoffman, West Lincoln: Finished the first day of the NCHSAA 2A state tournament in third place, this after shooting a 78 at Stonebridge Golf Club in Monroe. The Lady Rebels topped the team leaderboard after the first round, two strokes ahead of Pine Lake Prep with a total of 263. Taylor Turner (90) and Gracie Campbell (95) also contributed to the Day 1 effort.

Girls tennis

Arowen Caldwell, Highland Tech: Won 6-2, 6-2 in No. 5 singles. The Lady Rams won their NCHSAA 1A West semifinal against Gray Stone Day, 5-1.

Madison Darnell, Highland Tech: Won 6-2, 6-0 in No. 1 singles.

Misha Singh, Highland Tech: Won 6-1, 6-4 in No. 6 singles.

Katelin Vaher, Highland Tech: Won 6-3, 6-3 in No. 2 singles.

Tristy Williams, Highland Tech: Earned a three-set victory (6-4, 3-6, 10-6) win in No. 4 singles.

Emma Carver, North Lincoln: Won 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles. She also won 9-7 in No. 1 doubles with teammate Natalie Gore in their 5-4 loss to Franklin in the 3A West semifinals.

Natalie Gore, North Lincoln: Won 6-3, 6-0 in No. 2 singles.

Lulu King, North Lincoln: Won 7-5, 6-4 in No. 3 singles.

Annalise Bradley, Shelby: Won 6-2, 6-1 in No. 6 singles. The Lady Lions fell 5-3 in their NCHSAA 2A West to Salisbury.

Anna Schweppe, Shelby: Won in three sets (2-6, 6-3, 10-5) in No. 1 singles.
