The races for the mayoral position in both Belmont and Lowell were competitive.

Belmont's newly elected Mayor Richard Turner said he is honored to have been elected as next mayor of Belmont, and grateful for his supportive family, and a good race.

"I appreciate Martha's service to the city," Turner said. "she's been a faithful servant to Belmont for at least three terms on city council."

"Martha ran a very good, clean race," he said. "That's what we need more of in politics."

Lowell's newly elected mayor Larry G. Simonds is ready to put citizens first in his position as head of the city.

"I'm prioritizing all of the citizens, especially our senior citizens need help," Simonds said. "We have to have compassion in our hearts and understand, it's not about me, it's not about the board itself, it's about helping the people."
