Gas station and traffic lights added to new Publix shopping center in Myrtle Beach
A new Publix shopping center in the Market Common area is nearly finished, according to a Publix spokesperson.
Traffic lights at the intersection of Coventry Blvd and Wood Duck Drive went live on Wednesday. A gas station is currently under construction at the site as well.
The shopping center is located along Coventry Boulevard, across from the South Strand hospital. A few residents in the Market Common area have expressed concerns for the developing area.
Debi Vecchio, who will live close by, said she was concerned about the new gas station because of how it could affect crime rates.
“When you put in a gas station right where homes are at, crime is gonna happen,” Vecchio, who currently lives in North Carolina, said.
Vecchio added that the traffic lights and gas station would back up traffic in an area that is already fast-growing.
“These city planners need to sit down and city plan,” Vecchio said.
Alongside the Publix shopping center, a list of businesses are coming to the retail complex as well. Here is a list of what’s being added to the area, according to a leasing brochure.
Smoothie King
Waxing the City
Marco’s Pizza
Nail Spa & Beyond
All in Good Spirits
Heartland Dental
SC Federal Credit Union
According to a Publix spokesperson, the grocery store is set to open “on schedule,” which developers said earlier this year would be in mid to late October. An opening date has not yet been announced.
