Gas prices in NJ are falling. Here's where to find cheap gas near you

Gas under $3 a gallon!

This is the first time in nearly 2½ years in North Jersey, according to data from the Federal Reserve.

It comes as consumers enter the holiday shopping season while grappling with the side effects of inflation, student loan payments, higher interest rates and soaring credit card debt.

The average state price was $3.28 as of Wednesday, according to travel club AAA. It was $3.40 last month and $3.70 a year ago.

It’s a far cry from the state's highest recorded price of $5.05 a gallon in June 2022.

Gas prices in New Jersey hit their lowest point since March 2022, according to data from GasBuddy.com.

Prices of $2.99 have been “spreading like wildfire just in time for the start of the holiday season," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy.

Gas prices tend to rise during the warmer months and drop during the cold months, says the federal Energy Information Administration, because of the blend of gas that’s used.
