As gas prices continue to drop, here are the areas in Washington you can save at the pump

Washington state is seeing gas prices decrease, although some counties still are dealing with prices above $5 a gallon.

The United States gas price average has gone down in the last month, now averaging $3.76 a gallon instead of $4.21 in August, according to the American Automobile Association.

Washington’s state average is $4.66 a gallon, a 35-cent decrease since August. In September 2021, gas averaged $3.88 a gallon in Washington state, according to AAA.

Until June, Washington’s average gas price continued to climb, but in mid-June the price started to dip below $5.50.

Since mid-June, Washington’s average gas prices have declined, helping citizens stretch their dollars and afford to use their cars more.

Although the decrease in average gas price in Washington state has brought some relief to customers, the cost of gas still varies by county.

The county in Washington state with the highest price of gas is San Juan County, with an average of $5.20 per gallon. The county is bordered by Victoria, British Columbia on the west, where prices have gone as high as over $9 a gallon in U.S. dollars in recent months, according to GlobalPetrolPrices.com, which tracks global prices of gas. It is bordered by Vancouver, Canada to the north, where prices are hovering around $7 per gallon.

Meanwhile, Asotin County, in the extreme southeast corner of the state, has the lowest gas price average at only $4.22 a gallon. Asotin County shares a border with Oregon in the south where the average price of gas per gallon is $4.72, and Idaho in the east, where it is $4.50, according to AAA.

Washington state also has the sixth-highest gas prices in the country after Hawaii, California, Nevada, Alaska and Oregon. Hawaii has the highest gas in the country, averaging $5.30 a gallon, according to AAA.
