Gary Thulander named area managing director at 5-star Wequassett Resort & Golf Club

Gary Thulander’s new job as area managing director at Wequassett Resort and Golf Club comes six years after he shepherded Chatham Bars Inn to its five-star luxury rating.

Now Thulander has oversight of Wequassett, a double five-star luxury property, and five Red Jacket Resort properties on the Cape. The properties belong to EOS Hospitality, which manages 50 hotels and resorts across the country.

Thulander said he was excited to manage multiple assets in a May 2 telephone call. He had just returned from New York City where EOS is headquartered. The full-service management company counts spas, resorts, restaurants and even fine campgrounds in its portfolio.

“I will be getting more support than I’ve ever had in my career,” he said. “They are very sharp hoteliers.”

Thulander will be the area managing director based out of the Wequassett Resort. Two general managers who oversee the Red Jacket Beach Resort, Blue Water Resort, Riviera Beach Resort, Green Harbor Resort, and Blue Rock Resort will report to him.

Wequassett has 50 year-round employees and nearly 500 seasonal employees. All of the Red Jacket Resorts are all located in Yarmouth. Wequasset is on Pleasant Bay in Harwich.

He’ll be overseeing the largest collection of room inventory on the Cape, nearly 700. He lauded the long-tenured staff who understand the relationship between the resorts and first, as well as repeat, customers.

Thulander has been in the hospitality industry for 39 years. He said this step takes him into the fold of a fast-growing company that offers tremendous support in sales, marketing, branding, operations and revenue management.

“It’s always sad to leave a property, especially Chatham Bars Inn,” he said. “However, I’ve got a great opportunity with a great team and a leading luxury resort in the northeast.”
