Garage fire in Simi Valley sends up smoke

A garage fire in Simi Valley Wednesday afternoon sent up heavy smoke and brought a large firefighter response.

The blaze was reported around 2:20 p.m. in the 2300 block of East Victoria Street, according to Ventura County Fire Department reports. The block is in a residential area west of Sycamore Drive, not far from Berylwood Elementary School.

Crews reported heavy fire in the garage and smoke throughout the home, fire officials said.

Radio traffic from the scene indicated the fire had been knocked down at 2:45 p.m. and the blaze had not extended into the home.

After completing searches of the residence, firefighters worked on overhaul and salvage operations, the department said on X, formerly Twitter.

The cause remains under investigation.
