Game of Thrones star joins Showtrial season 2
The BBC have announced further casting for the second series of Showtrial, including Game of Thrones star Joe Dempsie.
The new instalment of the hit anthology series, written by Ben Richards, features a new cast and explosive new murder investigation.
Examining trial-by-media, the five-part series this time focuses on the trial of ‘Officer X’, a policeman accused of murdering climate change activist Marcus Calderwood. Was his death an accident or a cold-blooded murder?

Already announced as appearing in the upcoming series are BAFTA-award winner Adeel Akhtar (Sherwood), Nathalie Armin (Unforgotten) and Michael Socha (Chernobyl), who will all play crucial roles in the trial.
Joining this trio is a wealth of talent including Dempsie, Francesca Annis (Home Fires), Nina Toussaint-White (Bodyguard), Zoe Telford (Teachers), Fisayo Akinade (Heartstopper), Tom Padley (Silent Witness), Kerrie Hayes (Tin Star), Ali Khan (A Haunting in Venice) and Daniel Kendrick (Call the Midwife).
Dempsie, best known for playing Gendry Baratheon in the HBO epic, said on joining the cast: "I’m such a fan of everyone involved in this, and can’t wait to bring Ben Richards’ compelling scripts to life with all of them."

"Watching new cast added is always one of the most rewarding elements of creating a show," added writer Richards. "It is truly a privilege to have actors of such variety and talent."
The first series aired back in 2021 and followed the trial of the estranged daughter of a property developer who is charged with conspiring to murder a fellow university student. The cast was led by Sharon D. Clarke (Doctor Who), James Frain (Star Trek: Discovery), Tracy Ifeachor (The Originals) and Céline Buckens (The Ex-Wife).
Showtrial is currently filming in and around Belfast, and is made by World Productions, the team behind Line of Duty.
