Game of Thrones prequel reveals release windowHBO

HBO has confirmed the next Game of Thrones prequel's release window and plot details.

Warner Bros Discovery boss David Zaslav announced on Friday (February 23) that the ambitiously-titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight will arrive in "late 2025" on HBO (via Deadline).

The series is based on franchise creator George RR Martin's novella series Tales of Dunk and Egg, about the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall ("Dunk") and future king Aegon V Targaryen ("Egg") before they rose to power.

Alongside a release window, HBO has also shared a synopsis: "A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg.

"Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends."

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight was officially commissioned by HBO last spring, but pre-production was cut short before long due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.

HBO chief executive Casey Bloys has indicated that the series could begin filming this spring.

The show comes from House of the Dragon producers Ryan Condal and Vince Gerardis as well as author Martin and Ira Parker — and joins prequel, sequel and animated shows from the World of Westeros also in the works.
