Gal Gadot may or may not be doing Wonder Woman 3, but whatever happens, she's got the DC series to thank for her new Netflix movie Heart of Stone.

The spy thriller stars Gadot as intelligence agent Rachel Stone who must help her organisation regain its most valuable and dangerous asset, known only as The Heart, before it falls into the wrong hands.

Gadot also produced Heart of Stone and, talking to Digital Spy before the SAG-AFTRA strike came into effect, she explained the link between her new movie and Wonder Woman.

"The idea was conceived in 2017 after the first Wonder Woman was out, and it was a huge success. That was an 'a-ha moment' for me, when I said: 'Wait a second, there's men and women, they all like the movie, there's an audience for these types of films,'" she recalled.

"I'm such a big fan of this genre, that's something I always wanted to do, and that gave me the confidence to realise, 'Hey, there's room for more female-led action films'. And so we started to develop this one."

As well as Wonder Woman, Gadot is no stranger to an action movie having starred in the Fast & Furious series, Triple 9 and 2021 Netflix hit Red Notice alongside Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds.

However, she noted that Heart of Stone gave her the chance to play somebody different to any role she's had before.

"The idea for me from the get-go was to create a character that would be inspiring but not perfect in any way: multilayered, emotional, go through some journeys, while everything is taking place in an environment that is filled with action," she outlined.

"It's much more grounded, it's rawer, it's grittier, it's just more real. And the tone of it, it's completely fresh and different and of our world. And that was something I was very passionate about."

You'll be able to see for yourself when Heart of Stone lands on Netflix this Friday (August 11).

Heart of Stone is released on Netflix on August 11.
