FX’s Shōgun Miniseries Sets February Premiere Date — Watch an Epic Trailer

After years in development, FX’s Shōgun adaptation is finally ready to go into battle.

The new 10-episode limited series based on the James Clavell bestselling novel will premiere in February on Hulu, TVLine has learned, with a linear airing on FX as well of one episode per week. FX also unveiled a new trailer for the series, which you can watch above.

Set in the year 1600, Shōgun stars Cosmo Jarvis (Peaky Blinders, Raised by Wolves) as John Blackthorne, an English sailor who finds himself marooned in a fishing village in feudal Japan. He’s soon embroiled in a fierce civil war swirling around the besieged Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Westworld’s Hiroyuki Sanada), with only translator Toda Mariko (Pachinko’s Anna Sawai) to bridge the gap between the two men.

“While serving her lord amidst this fraught political landscape, Mariko must reconcile her newfound companionship with Blackthorne, her commitment to the faith that saved her and her duty to her late father,” per the official description.

Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks developed the series for television, with Marks (Top Gun: Maverick) serving as showrunner and executive producer. FX first ordered the project more than five years ago, in August 2018. Shōgun was previously adapted into a 1980 NBC miniseries starring Richard Chamberlain and Toshiro Mifune that became a national sensation, scoring more than 20 million viewers per broadcast and winning three Emmys.
