Future Black History Makers: Meet Lawrence Smalls a fourth-grader at Owen Elementary

Lawrence Smalls III, 9, the son of Lawrence and Aritia Smalls, is in fourth grade at William H. Owen Elementary School.

He was nominated as a Future Black History Maker because " Little Lawrence, as we like to call him, embodies so many great leadership qualities," writes his mom, Aritia Smalls, who nominated him. "Although he doesn't often see it himself, we are certain that his strong will and sense of justice will make a way for him in the world. Lawrence uses his voice to speak up for others. He wants to do what is right and fair and will advocate for those who are mistreated."
