After further consideration, Tripadvisor removes ‘fun for the family’ review of Auschwitz

Popular travel site Tripadvisor finally removed a review calling the Auschwitz death camp “fun for the family.”

On Thursday, the Auschwitz Museum’s Twitter feed drew attention to the offensive user review and was reportedly told by Tripadvisor that the comments is within the rules of its submission guidelines.

“This place was great went there with my newborn babys to test the chamber but they came out deformed. But its fun for the family,” that review read.

Following immediate pressure on social media, Tripadvisor reversed its initial decision, blaming “a blend of technology and people” for the failing to identify the review as promoting intolerance. The travel site also issued an apology and thanked Tripadvisor for drawing attention to the issue.

“We always aim to get it right the first time and we apologize to the Auschwitz Memorial and Museum and the Jewish community at-large for this initial miss,” that statement further reads.

The Auschwitz Museum likewise thanked Tripadvisor for resolving the matter.

More than a million people, mostly Jews, were murdered at the Nazi death camp situated in occupied Poland during World War II.
