Frozen Vegetables, Corn Sold at Kroger, More Nationwide Recalled Due to Listeria

If you’ve got any frozen vegetables or corn in your freezer, you might want to take a peek at the packaging. According to an announcement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Washington-based Twin City Foods, Inc. is voluntarily recalling a limited quantity of Individually Quick Frozen (IQF) Super Sweet Cut Corn and Mixed Vegetables. These foods, which are frozen and not ready-to-eat, are being recalled because they may potentially be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Per the FDA, these recalled items were distributed to grocery stores nationwide, including Kroger, Food Lion, and more. The recalled items include Food Lion Mixed Vegetables Carrots, Corn, Green Beans & Peas, FOOD LION Super Sweet Cut Yellow Corn, Kroger Mixed Vegetables Carrots, Super Sweet Corn, Green Beans & Green Peas, Kroger Super Sweet Corn, Signature Select Golden Corn Super Sweet, and more. To date, the FDA notes that there have been no consumer reports of illness or other complaints associated with these products. Additionally, no other items have been affected by this recall.

According to the agency, Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. While healthy individuals may experience symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, a listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

This recall was initiated after one customer’s third party lab results for the IQF sweet cut corn showed evidence of Listeria monocytogenes. Consumers who may have purchased any of the recalled products are urged not to consume them. Instead, these items should be discarded immediately, or returned to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.
