Frontier Airlines announces new routes serving Phoenix and Dallas-Fort Worth

Frontier Airlines grew this week, with more plans to expand on the horizon. The airline officially opened its previously-announced crew base in Phoenix Friday with new flights set to start Saturday. The carrier isalso expanding its footprint in Dallas-Fort Worth in the spring.

"Now more than ever consumers appreciate the value offered by our ultra-low cost business model," Jake Filene, senior vice president of customers at Frontier Airlines said in a statement.

According to the airline, these plans will make Frontier one of the largest carriers at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and reaffirm its status as the fastest-growing airline at DFW.

The discountairline's new Phoenix base officially opened Friday, and six new routes will come online for the airport starting Saturday. Frontier will serve Philadelphia, Fort Lauderdale, Detroit and Orange County, California daily from Phoenix, and serve Cincinnati four times each week.

New service between Phoenix and Portland, Oregon is set to begin on Sunday, and will expand to three weekly round-trips by the week of Feb. 19.

"A thriving and expanding airport is vital to the city’s economic advancement and we are thrilled to be part of that trajectory both as a service provider and major wage contributor," Filene's statement said.

Frontier had previously announced these new routes, in addition to new service to Baltimore (BWI), which will start over the winter, and Nashville; Kansas City; Seattle-Tacoma, Washington; Indianapolis and Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, all of which are scheduled to start over the winter.

Once all the new services commence, Frontier will serve 23 destinations nonstop from Phoenix.

Frontier Airlines expansion at Dallas/Fort Worth

Frontier also announced plans to expand its presence at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in Texas, with five new routes expected to join the airline's map this spring.

DFW will get daily Frontierservice to New York (LGA) starting on April 18, and to Orange County, California starting on May 21. The airline will also begin flying four times weekly to Baltimore (BWI) and Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina on May 21 and 22 respectively. DFW will also get a flight to Montego Bay, Jamaica three times a week starting on May 22.

When these new routes have all come into service, Frontier will fly to 19 destinations nonstop from DFW.

The new flights also coincide with the airline opening another crew base at the airport.

"Opening a crew base here demonstrates our strong commitment to continued growth and expanded service," Barry Biffle, president and CEO of Frontier Airlines said in a statement. "Frontier is an ultra-low cost carrier and consumers appreciate the value offered by our ‘Low Fares Done Right’ approach to air travel now more than ever."
