Fright night: Halfway to Haunt happening Friday, Saturday

MONROEStelios “Spooky” Stylianou has taken a character he created and turned it into a haunted attraction.

Dr. Timothy Croww and some of his patients are preparing to scare up fun from 6 to 10 p.m. at this weekend’s Halfway to Haunt.

The two-day event takes place at Our House Games, 2111 S. Monroe St. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children 10 and younger.

More than a dozen scary haunt actors will welcome guests as they take on the task of touring the haunted building in search of Dr. Croww.

“I wrote a backstory on a gentleman named Dr. Timothy Croww,” Stylianou said. “He was a perfectionist and he wanted to heal people but he ended up taking his work to the extreme. He started experimenting on his patients that didn’t need help.”

Artist Abigail Breimayer creates the character Cupid for one of Stelios Stylianou's spooky events. The local makeup artist will work with haunt actors at Halfway to Haunt planned for Friday and Saturday, May 10-11, at Our House Games, 2111 S. Monroe St. in Monroe.

Stylianou said the doctor was performing lobotomies on patients and leaving them in limbo.

“He created a scarecrow effect. He dressed his patients up like scarecrows and would hang them on the family’s homestead as trophies,” he said.

Stylianou, known for his videography talents, promotes his haunted events with posters and videos he shares on social media.

For this weekend’s haunt, Stylianou and his crew will spend many hours transforming Our House Games into something scary.

When guests arrive at the haunt, they’ll enter as patients going to see Dr. Croww. Each haunt actor has doctor’s orders to provide guests with a bone-chilling experience.

Anyone sensitive to light should be aware there will be strobe and other lighting in some areas as part of the attraction.

At the end of the haunt, guests will be led to the front of the building where they can purchase refreshments and shop at the local game store.

Stylianou grew up challenging his fears and enjoying the thrill of going to haunted houses. His love for spooky things is evident in his work as a videographer, director and set designer.

He said this weekend will be a great time to start getting excited about Halloween and enjoy some spooky fun.

And, if anyone isn’t feeling up to celebrating, there’ll be a doctor in the house.
