'Friends' Star Jessica Hecht Breaks Silence on Matthew Perry's Death

Another Friends star has come forward to mourn the loss of Matthew Perry.

Jessica Hecht, the actress who famously played Susan Bunch on the hit sitcom, broke her silence on Perry's death while talking to Page Six at Manhattan Theatre Club's 2023 Fall Gala earlier this week.

While speaking with the outlet, Hecht, 58, reflected on one of her favorite episodes she filmed with Perry, who played the beloved joke-cracking character Chandler Bing.

Hecht brought up the episode from Season 2 titled, "The One With the Breast Milk," where Susan's wife Carol Willick (Jane Sibbett), also the ex-wife of Ross Geller (David Schwimmer), was still breastfeeding her and Ross' son Ben, and some of the characters, namely Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc) and Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow) weren't afraid to taste the breast milk.

Ross and Chandler were the most grossed out by the situation, prompting them attempt tasting the milk for themselves.

“His [Perry's] was the silliest attempt to taste the breast milk,” Hecht recalled. "I just remember how kind he was and how he tried to make everyone else at ease."

She went on to say that the late actor was "kinder" to other people than he was to himself, "as many people are who suffer from addiction and all of that—just desperate for other people to be relieved from the pain that they feel."

Prior to his death at age 54 in October, Perry had dedicated his life to spreading awareness and helping others battling with addiction, as he did for much of his life.

Perry even previously stated that he didn't want to be remembered for his Emmy-nominated role on Friends, but instead, he wanted his work in helping others to be the first thing people remember about him.

In the weeks following his death, the other lead actors from the show, including LeBlanc, Schwimmer, Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox have penned their own personal tributes and looked back on their favorite memories with Perry.
