Friends, family mourn Milana Reeves: 'It's just hard to explain, but she was everything.'

Dozens of people, almost all wearing green, gathered Friday afternoon at a memorial visitation for Milana Reeves, one of two Sioux Falls teenagers killed in a car crash April 27.

Reeves, 15, died along with 15-year-old Eric Hopkins in the crash when a Dodge Durango lost control and crashed into a house and a tree in Sioux Falls. The crash also led to serious injuries for five of another six in the vehicle.

"She was my best friend," said Savannah Reid, who wore a shirt reading, "Long Live Milana Marie."

"She was funny, she was kind, she was ... she was a lot of different things," Reid said. "I don't really know how to explain it. She brought smiles to everybody's faces, she brought light to so many different people."

Next to her, Christine Mulenda agreed about Milana, who many called "MiMi."

“Milana was a ‘You do it, I do it' type of person to me. She had this type of vibe where we just matched each other's ideas and stuff like that," Mulenda said. "She was just a kindhearted person. She was everything. It’s just hard to explain but she was everything.”

The girls wore bracelets that said "Milana" and "Forever 15" as well as nail art including an "M" inside a heart and Milana's name.

Keney Merveille also called Milana her best friend.

"She was just an enthusiastic person. She just loved smiling everyday, she always had a positive energy," she said. "Never was bad about stuff, she always saw the good side about things, and she always just pushed me to be better and helped me a lot.”

Milana's grandmother, Ann Reeves, called her "a great person, kind, sweet, funny and beautiful," and talked about how much she loved her mother and her little sister.

"We are a tight family and Milana was loved and adored," she wrote. "As her Grandma and PaPa, [we] could not [have] loved her more. She had our hearts from day one. She had a big heart. She loved her friends. They miss her terribly."

Milana's aunt, Rosa Mitchell, said she was "just a phenomenal, beautiful, silly, fun-loving girl. She really cared about her nationality, she really cared about animals, nature. She was a good kid. She was a really good kid.”

Authorities with the Sioux Falls Police Department said the investigation into the cause of the crash could take weeks, but that speed played a contributing factor. A driver has not yet been identified, and whether charges will be filed in regards to the case is not yet clear.

Hopkins' funerals services were held in Lake Andes earlier this week.

A GoFundMe supporting Milana's family has raised nearly $23,000 since it went online, and remains open. A similar GoFundMe for the Hopkins family has raised about $4,600.
