BOYS BASKETBALL

Appleton North 71, Kimberly 59

APPLETON - The Lightning outscored the Papermakers 37-21 in the second half to take command and get the Fox Valley Association win.

The win snapped North’s two-game losing streak and the Lightning are 14-3 overall and 9-3 in FVA play. Neenah’s victory over Oshkosh North leaves Appleton North one game behind the Spartans in the league title chase.

“Our league is just so talented. Night-in and night-out, it’s going to be a war. For us tonight, we switched some things on offense and wanted more spacing and our strength is our guard play. So we switched some things which wasn’t on film and we were able to get some open looks that kept us in the game early,” North coach Chris Kellett said.

Abraham Tomori scored 22 points and had five rebounds to lead the Lightning, which also got 14 points from Will Sweeney and 13 from Grant Hardy.

“The second half we came out of halftime and went zone a little bit and I thought that really muddled things up for them,” Kellett said. “When we share the ball and play hard, we’re a really good high school team and if we don’t, we struggle. And tonight the ball was moving.”

Thomas Meyers led Kimberly (12-6, 9-5) with 15 points, with Mikey Wildes adding 12.
