Fresno police vehicle collides with woman in Lexus SUV, sending three to hospital

A Fresno police vehicle was involved in a crash Saturday evening on the outskirts of downtown Fresno that resulted in three people going to the hospital.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of Fulton and Belmont avenues.

Witnesses and Fresno police said a woman was driving a white Lexus SUV on westbound Belmont Avenue and in the process of making a left turn to go south on Fulton Avenue when the police SUV collided with the white SUV.

Lt. Zeb Price said the police SUV was driving eastbound on Belmont and responding to a call without siren and flashing lights at the time of the accident.

He added that both vehicles had a green light.

However, it was unclear if the white Lexus had a protected green arrow when the woman began making a left turn. It also was not known how fast the police SUV was going.

The crash caused the police SUV to then collide with a tree.

The officers complained of pain but were in stable condition. The woman in the SUV also complained of pain and was receiving treatment. She, too, was considered in stable condition, police said.
