A Fresno grocery store sold a Mega Millions ticket worth $4.2 million

Some lucky lottery player in Fresno won $4.2 million in the multi-state Mega Millions drawing Friday, missing the $1.3 billion jackpot by just one number.

The Fresno winner, who has not been identified, got five out of five numbers correct, minus the Mega number. The winning $2 ticket was sold at the Vons grocery store at Cedar and Shepherd avenues. The store manager declined to comment Saturday morning.

The big Mega Millions winner, meanwhile, bought their ticket at a Speedway gas station in Des Plaines, a suburb northwest of Chicago. It was worth $1.3 billion, the second-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history. The cash payout for the big prize is $780.5 million.

Winning numbers were 13, 36, 45, 57, 67 with a Mega number of 14, lottery officials announced during the 8 p.m. drawing.

The largest lottery jackpot was the 2018 Powerball ticket worth $1.5 billion purchased in South Carolina, according to the Mega Millions website.
