Four things to know about the Gabe DeVoe Foundation's latest contribution to Shelby

Former Shelby standout Gabe DeVoe is using his foundation to provide for the children of Cleveland County.

Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming event and how the Gabe DeVoe Foundation helps local youth:

1. What

There will be an unveiling of a free little library on Sunday, April 28, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Parkside Villas, 203 Ramblewood Dr., Shelby.

2. Why

The Gabe DeVoe Foundation has a Beyond the Court literacy program that focuses on reading fluency, reading comprehension and writing.

Scholarships and charitable initiatives are also a major part of the foundation. Scholarships provide financial assistance to students, making it possible for them to access higher education or training programs that they may not be able to afford.

Throughout the year, the organization partners with Feeding Kids of Cleveland County, Reading Kids of Cleveland County, by hosting back to school community drives and collaborating with the community on how to better serve youth.

3. Community

DeVoe earned a full basketball scholarship to Clemson University where he contributed to the Clemson basketball program and earned ACC Player of the week and three-time ACC Academic- All American. He graduated with honors from Clemson’s business school with a degree in marketing.

After graduating from Clemson, Gabe worked out for the Los Angeles Lakers in preparation for the 2018 NBA draft. After going unselected in the draft, DeVoe joined the Charlotte Hornets for the 2018 Summer League. In September 2018, he signed a deal to play professionally in Europe.

Off the court, DeVoe is still doing community service projects, speaking to local schools and students.

4. Help
