Four-year-old boy drowns in North Brunswick

NORTH BRUNSWICK - Police are investigating the drowning of a four-year-old boy in a residential pool Saturday, said Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Joseph Battaglia of the North Brunswick Police Department.

At 7:46 p.m., police received a 911 call reporting that a child was found in the pool and wasn’t breathing. Upon arrival, authorities performed CPR on the four-year-old child and took him to Robert Wood Johnson UniversityHospital in New Brunswick where he was pronounced dead, the prosecutor said.

The incident is being investigated by Detective John Hanrahan of the North Brunswick Police Department and Detective Michelle Coppola of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office. If anyone has any information, please contact Hanrahan at 732-247-0922 or Coppola at 732 745-3477.

Both Ciccone and Battaglia expressed deep sorrow following the drowning of this four-year-old child.

"Our hearts are heavy with this tragic loss," the official said. "We extend our deepest condolences to the family during this incredibly difficult time. We also urge everyone to ensure the safety of all children when near water."
