East Providence police investigating after body found along river

EAST PROVIDENCE – The death of a man whose body was found along the Providence River Thursday night "does not appear suspicious at this time," the East Providence police said Friday afternoon.

The police were called Thursday night after a walker on the East Bay Bike Path reported finding a body, and officers located a body along the river's shoreline, the police said in a news release at about 1:30 p.m.

The Fire Department removed the body, and it has been turned over to the state Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy, the police said.

Investigators are waiting to confirm the man's identity, the police said.

The body was discovered at about 7:15 p.m. off the East Bay Bike Path near Kettle Point Avenue, police Capt. Michael Rapoza said previously.
