Fort Defiance swept the major Shenandoah District volleyball awards following yet another district championship. Fort has never lost a Shenandoah District match since joining in 2019.

Fort sophomore Maecy Frizzelle was named district player of the year in voting by the coaches. Fort's Amber Pitsenbarger was named coach of the year after leading her team to the second seed in Region 2B volleyball and a berth in the state tournament.

Fort placed four players on the first team. Joining Frizzelle were senior Trinity Hedrick, junior Ella Shreckhise and senior Carley Ryder.

Staunton had a pair of players on the first team with Sibbie Jetton and Felicity Jones both earning spots. Both are Staunton juniors. Riverheads also had two players named to the first team: seniors Anna Shirley and Kale Argenbright. Wilson Memorial's Katie Lawhorn and Waynesboro's Kaitlyn Hull rounded out the 10-member team.

The second team was made up of Waynesboro's Morgan Sites and Kristin Tortorice, Riverheads' Kylee Swats and Gwyneth Lloyd, Wilson Memorial's Bree Kindig and Amber Cason, Staunton's Kaylan Herron and Sam Swift, Fort Defiance's Amelia Simmons and Buffalo Gap's Caroline Alger.

Fort Defiance is the only Shenandoah District team remaining in the playoffs. Fort travels to Bruton Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. Class 2 state quarterfinal match. Bruton won the Region 2A championship, beating Amelia in five sets. Bruton is 17-6 on the season while Fort Defiance, the Region 2B runner-up, is 16-5.
