Game of the night

Joshua d. Midlothian, 27-25, 17-25, 25-21, 15-25, 15-10

In the biggest upset of the night, Joshua took down Midlothian, the No. 1 team in the Class 5A area rankings, in District 8-5A.

The Owls improved to 10-18 overall and 3-1 in district.

The Panthers fell to 26-3 and 5-1.

Five players from Joshua had seven or more kills as the Owls finished with 51. Payton Koller led the way with 10 kills. Ashlynn Porter added nine kills and hit 0.500.

Gabbie Maldonado had nine, Morgan Collier had eight and Addison Litke chipped in seven. Peyton Cole put in 34 digs, second most of the season to up her total to 474, and Evi Walker and Cloey Dress added 13 and 10 digs, respectively.

Dress had a team-high 33 assists.

Top Performers

Katherine Holtman, Jr., Argyle: Holtman had 13 kills and hit 0.619 during the Eagles’ sweep over Richland.

Cloey Dress, Jr., Joshua: Dress had a big double-double with 33 assists and 10 digs during the Owl’s 3-2 upset win over Midlothian.

Katie Wong, Jr., Burleson: Wong had 48 assists and 12 digs as the Elks edged out Cleburne in five sets.

Caleigh King, Jr., Carroll: King had a game-high 40 digs in the Dragons’ 3-1 win over Keller.

Kendall Locke, Sr., Azle: Locke had 11 kills and 15 digs in the Hornets’ 3-0 win over Granbury.

Karlee Locke, Sr., Azle: Twin sister Karlee also had a double-double with 10 kills, 11 digs and a career-high 6 blocks against Granbury.

Jolee Van Dyke, Jr., Millsap: During a 3-0 win over Comanche, Van Dyke had 14 assists, 9 digs and recorded 11 aces on 32 attempts with no service errors.

Emory Hinckley, Sr., Paschal: The Dayton commit had career-highs 40 assists and 8 aces to go with 7 digs and a pair of blocks in the Panthers’ five set loss against Trinity.

Addi McCrary, Sr., Timber Creek: McCrary had 29 digs in the Falcons’ 3-1 win over Fossil Ridge.

Emilee Casey, Sr., Midlothian Heritage: Casey put in a team-high 18 kills during the Jaguars’ 3-2 win over Timberview.

Kendall Carlock, Jr., Burleson: Carlock registered 18 kills during the Elks’ 3-2 win over Cleburne.

Ahlyss McDaniel, Sr., Burleson: McDaniel joined Carlock on the attack against Cleburne as she also finished with 18 kills.

17: Midlothian Heritage- The Jaguars served up 17 aces during its 3-2 win over Mansfield Timberview, 24-26, 27-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-13. Allie Schmidt had four aces while Brooklyn Wilhoite had a game-high seven aces.

13: Karalynn Arguello, Burleson- The 5-8 senior middle blocker was a force at the net on Tuesday night, registering a career-high 13 total blocks as the Elks beat Cleburne in five sets, 19-25, 25-17, 25-12, 21-25, 15-8. The win pushed Burleson’s district record to 5-1 in 8-5A.

Results

Midlothian Heritage d. Mansfield Timberview, 24-26, 27-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-13

Staying in District 8-5A, the Heritage Jaguars rallied back down 2-1 to beat the Timberview Wolves in five sets. The win pushed Heritage’s district record 2-3 to while Timberview dropped to 4-2.

Emilee Casey and Grace Sweeney led the Heritage attack with 18 and 16 kills, respectively while Brooklyn Wilhoite served up a whopping seven aces.

Defensively, four players had 10 digs (Ella Bates 12, Sweeney 11, Allie Schmidt 10, Wilhoite 10).

Jordna Myers, Schmidt and Payton Schoonover combined for 40 of the team’s 48 assists.

Southlake Carroll d. Keller, 25-22, 25-23, 18-25, 25-21

The Dragons picked up a big win on the road in District 4-6A against the Indians. Carroll improves to 12-15 and 1-1. Keller drops to 16-10 and 1-1.

Layla Austin had a team-high 15 kills and Taryn Barnes added 11 on 0.360 hitting and 32 digs. Caleigh King had a game-high 40 digs. Austin added 12 digs.

Carroll setters Parker Tuttle and Cat Millsap combined for 41 of Carroll’s 47 assists.

Northwest d. Aledo, 25-14, 25-23, 25-16

Northwest, No. 4 in the 5A area rankings, took down No. 3 Aledo in straight sets in District 5-5A.

TCU commit Lydia Seymour led the way with 13 kills and hit 0.550 while Rylee Jackson and Levariya Pinder added nine and eight kills, respectively. Madison Scrivner and Kiley Brooks had 11 digs apiece and Sophie Chambers and Cassidy Hargesheimer had 20 and 16 assists.

The win pushed Northwest’s mark to 26-8 overall and 2-0 in district while Aledo drops to 19-14 and 1-1.

Aledo was led by Alyssa Gonzales and Vivian Parker (8 and 7 kills), Rylee Metts (19 assists) and Mia Little and Lauryn Mack (16 and 12 digs).

Argyle d. Richland, 25-16, 25-23, 25-12

In another Top 10 Class 5A area match up, the Eagles rebounded from a sluggish second set to sweep the Royals in 7-5A. The Eagles are 23-10 and 2-0 while the Royals fall to 18-12 and 1-1.

A pair of blocks gave Argyle a 14-7 lead in the first set and Richland needed a timeout. The Eagles got a combo block from Jordyn Moore and Camryn Heiser out of the timeout and Richland called its second timeout after Moore’s assist set up a Katherine Holtman kill in the middle.

Argyle pushed the lead to 9-2 in the second set with an 8-1 run, but Richland answered with its own run. Two blocks from Bella Shawaluk and a Emily Keohen set to Brooke Bohannon sparked an 8-1 run to get the Royals within 15-14.

Keohen, a player of the week this season, served seven straight times and Richland extended the run to 13-1 to give it a 19-15 lead. But Argyle got kills from Holtman and Harper Hurley and Holtman’s ace tied the match at 23. Argyle would close it out for a 2-0 lead.

The game was 6-4 in the third before Argyle pulled away with an 11-1 run and Allison Hesselgesser scored on match point to get the sweep. Holtman had 13 kills and hit 0.619. Moore had seven kills, seven digs and 14 assists, and Sydney Payne recorded a game-high 19 digs.
