Fort Eisenhower lieutenant colonel arrested in Hall County undercover sting operation

A lieutenant colonel serving in the U.S. Army Cyber Command at Fort Eisenhower was recently arrested in a Hall County undercover sting operation.

Rene Godfrey Gamara, 44, of Bonaire, is charged with felony electronic exploitation of a minor, according to a news release from the Hall County Sheriff's Office.

Gamara was charged after believing he would be meeting with a victim under the age of 16 for the purpose of having sex, according to the release. The arrest was made as part of Operation Good Shepard, which focuses on identifying suspects who use the internet for illegal sexual activity.

"The Army takes all misconduct allegations seriously and cooperates fully with civilian authorities in their investigation," Fort Eisenhower officials wrote in a statement issued on Friday. "As this is an ongoing investigation, we cannot provide further details."

Gamara joined the Army in October 1998 and was deployed to Iraq in 2006, according to military records. Fort Eisenhower confirmed he is currently assigned to the cyber protection brigade.
