Former Ohio State defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs isn’t done coaching just yet. On Tuesday morning, it was announced that he was offered a job for the 2022 season.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the Cincinnati Bearcats are expected to hire Coombs as their cornerbacks coach and special teams coordinator. This will mark his second stint with the program.

“Sources: University of Cincinnati expected to hire former Ohio State DC Kerry Coombs as the school’s new corners coach and special teams coordinator. He’s a former UC assistant who spent more than two decades coaching high school football in Cincinnati,” Thamel tweeted.

Cincinnati lost cornerbacks coach Perry Eliano to Ohio State earlier this month. It’s ironic that Coombs, a former Ohio State coach, is now heading to Cincinnati to replace Eliano.

After it was announced that Coombs wouldn’t be retained by the Buckeyes for the 2022 season, he sent out a heartfelt statement that was directed for the fans.

“As I prepare for the next mission in my life, I want to thank Buckeye Nation for allowing my family and me to share in some truly incredible experiences,” Coombs said. “I remain most grateful for the family of extraordinary young men I have been privileged to serve, as well as the men I have worked alongside. I will look back at the Shoe, the fans, the championships, and mostly the players with great fondness, while also looking forward with great anticipation to what God has in store for me.”

It’ll be interesting to see how Coombs performs at Cincinnati next season.
