Former NFL star Kellen Winslow II sentenced to 14 years for rape, assault with intent to commit rape

Former NFL star Kellen Winslow II had the book thrown at him for rape and sexual assaults.

On Wednesday, the judge in Winslow’s case sentenced the disgraced tight end to the maximum term of 14 years behind bars while tersely describing him as a “sexual predator,” reported The Associated Press.

San Diego County Superior Court Judge Blaine Bowman spared no sympathy for the athlete.

“The vulnerability of the victims was no accident,” said Bowman. “It was the type of victim that you sought out yourself because you felt that perhaps they wouldn’t report the crime” or “wouldn’t be deemed credible by the jurors.”

In all, Winslow, 37, was sentenced for sexual offenses against five victims, including a homeless woman in 2018.

That unidentified woman, who was raped in Encinitas, Calif., spoke to the court via video conference.

Explaining that since the attack she struggles to walk and move her head, she added that she lives in constant fear of intruders, checking closets and under beds and cannot be left alone.

“It’s affecting my life every day and every night,” said the woman. “I don’t ever feel safe inside or outside. You brought so much damage to my life.”

Other victims included a 54-year-old hitchhiker and a teen who had passed out at a party.

Bowman noted that Winslow continued to stalk after his first arrest, acting lewdly in front of a 77-year-old gym patron while concealing his GPS ankle bracelet with a towel. He also exposed himself to a 57-year-old neighbor in her garden.

Winslow, the son of Hall of Fame tight end Kellen Winslow, declined to speak during his appearance.

“In the future, I do plan to tell my story,” said the former Cleveland Browns star.

The 14-year prison term was the maximum allowed under Winslow’s plea deal. He was convicted of forcible rape, rape of an unconscious person, assault with intent to commit rape, indecent exposure and lewd conduct in public.
