Former LSU football star Malik Naber signs contract with New York Giants, after buying his mother a house

Former LSU football wide receiver Malik Nabers made a major purchase before signing his NFL contract.

ESPN's Adam Schefter announced Nabers signed his rookie contract, worth four years, $29.2 million fully guaranteed deal Friday morning. The contract is right at the slot of what is expected to be made as the No. 6 overall pick. He was the second wide receiver selected when the New York Giants called his name on draft night.

But even before Nabers signed his contract, he made a purchase for his mother, Tonya Nabers: a new house.

“That was the most important thing in my life, having her have her own house and feel comfortable and not having to worry about bills to pay,” Nabers said to Schefter. “And know that her little boy did it for her.”

Nabers, who is 6-foot-1, had 89 catches for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2023. He caught passes from Heisman Trophy winner and No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels.

According to Article 7 of the NFL's collective bargaining agreement, term lengths for NFL rookie contracts are "fixed" and "unalterable." Rookies selected in the first round receive a four-year contract with a fifth-year club option, meaning the player's base salary will be fully guaranteed.
