Earlier this week, Kentucky announced that former Penn State quarterback Will Levis will be the team’s starting quarterback this fall.

While that’s great news for Levis, it was unfortunate news for one of the quarterbacks competing for the starting job. Former Auburn quarterback Joey Gatewood transferred to Kentucky after losing out on the starting job to Bo Nix.

He lost out yet again – this time to Levis – and wasted no time entering his name into the transfer portal. After a few days of considering his options, Gatewood has reportedly picked a new home.

According to a report from college football insider Brandon Marcello, Gatewood is heading to UCF.

“Former Auburn and Kentucky quarterback Joey Gatewood has decided to enroll at UCF, a person familiar with the decision tells 247Sports,” Marcello reported. “Gatewood could arrive to UCF’s campus as soon as this week, the source said.”

Gatewood attempted just one pass in 2018 as a true freshman. During the 2019 season, Gatewood completed 5-of-7 passing for 54 yards and two touchdowns.

He also flashed his ability to run the ball with 126 yards and two scores on the ground – 102 rushing yards and both scores came on 12 attempts against Kent State.

Per 247Sports, Joey Gatewood was the No. 49 recruit in the 2018 recruiting class.
