Former 'Grey's Anatomy' star returns after 10 seasons and it's kind of a big deal

Grey's Anatomy fans were freaking out Thursday night over the long-awaited and highly-anticipated return of Dr. Addison Montgomery.

For those who need a little refresh: Addison, played by Kate Walsh, first appeared on Grey's during the Season 1 finale, when she and then-husband Derek Shepherd, played by Patrick Dempsey, became entangled in a love triangle with Meredith Grey. After a lot of ups and downs, Addison ultimately left Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, which became the start of Walsh's spinoff show Private Practice. However, Walsh's spinoff ended in 2013, and the actress hasn't appeared on Grey's since Season 8, which is why her return this week was a very big deal to fans. Even Walsh tweeted her excitement prior to the episode:

Meanwhile, fans weren't just crying tears of joy over the fact that their beloved character was back at Grey Sloan. They were also in tears over the fact that, after all these years, Addison and Meredith put the past behind them.

During one of the final scenes, in which, Addison breaks into tears to Meredith saying how she can't feel Derek's presence at the hospital, Meredith assures her he is there. "He is here. And he's in his children. And they are very real. And I would love for you to come and meet them," Meredith tells Addison.

The tear-jerking, yet heartwarming, scene totally wrecked viewers, who were so touched by Addison and Meredith finally becoming the two badass friends they were meant to be.

Grey's Anatomy airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on ABC.
