Former Clemson Tigers Star Joining Coaching Staff

Dabo Swinney has one of the best staffs in college football. It’s a big reason why Clemson continues to have so much success. He made yet another impressive hire on Monday, bringing former Tigers star quarterback Tajh Boyd back to South Carolina.

That’s right. Boyd is returning to Clemson. The former college football star will reportedly oversee player development for the 2021-22 season, the role being an often undervalued one in the world of college football.

Boyd brings plenty of experience with him to Clemson. He spent four years with the Tigers, three of which he was their starting quarterback. He completed 64.3 percent of his throws for 11,904 yards and 107 touchdowns with 39 picks during his collegiate career. The New York Jets took the Clemson quarterback in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Boyd now returns to Clemson where he will fill an important role on Swinney’s staff. He’s very excited about the opportunity.

“It’ll fit somewhere between (an) analyst (and a) player development role,” Boyd told Mike Uva of WACH FOX. “I’ve been through so much with this game: loved it, hated it and everything else in-between. The fact that I get to give that back; help guys navigate through those experiences and get to relearn the game in a different light is really exciting for me going forward.

“I’m just gonna relearn the game. Maybe I’ll start in the (offensive) line room and relearn protections and then I’ll jump in with the receivers and tight ends and try to get a holistic version of what it looks like to coach on the other side of it, which means preparation and long hours but I’m excited about it.”

Tajh Boyd’s professional playing career didn’t pan out as he had hoped. Perhaps a career in the coaching world will.
