A former Chase Bank is being demolished in Appleton. What will replace it? | The Buzz

APPLETON — A Minnesota-based coffee chain confirmed Thursday that it plans to open a new drive-thru location on the site of a former Chase Bank in Appleton.

A reader noticed the demolition at 2120 E. Northland Ave. — across from the Pick 'n Save, east of the Ballard Avenue intersection — and asked The Buzz if something new was coming.

Tailwind 2120 Appleton LLC bought the 1.3-acre property in November for $425,000, according to the Wisconsin Department of Revenue's website. The LLC has an address listed in Mankato, Minnesota.

The Post-Crescent sought comment Thursday about Tailwind's plans for the property but did not immediately hear back.

Tailwind Group, Inc., submitted a site plan, which was approved Nov. 30, according to Kara Homan, Appleton's director of community and economic development. On the application, Tailwind said the project involves "demolition and redevelopment of the existing bank building site into (2) retail parcels."

Mid-America Real Estate's website shows two listings for 2120 E. Northland Ave., saying that 0.73 acres of land was available for sale or lease, "adjacent to newly developed Caribou Cabin (June 2024)."

"We can confirm we are currently planning to open a Caribou Coffee cabin in that location this summer," a Caribou Coffee spokesperson said an email Thursday to The Post-Crescent.

The coffee chain already has three locations in the Fox Cities.

Caribou Coffee is phase one at the Northland Avenue property, while details for the other retail lot are yet to be determined, according to Tailwind's application.
